ICTY: Del Ponte Expects Karadzic and Mladic to be Apprehended by July

Del Ponte promises Karadzic's arrest soon... what else is new? - Balkan Ghost

April 15 (FENA) – The Chief Prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal, Carla del Ponte, expects Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic to be apprehended by July this year, before the planned marking of the 10 anniversary of the massacres in Srebrenica, was announced by BBC Radio on Thursday. Del Ponte said that without apprehending the chief suspects for the massacre of over 7.000 Bosniaks, the sense of marking this anniversary will be brought in question, and added that the remaining time is enough for the international community to demonstrate its will. “I expect concrete results before July, and by the end of the year I will announce all information with which we dispose on apprehending Karadzic and Mladic”, she said, indicating that the public must know why the two of them have not been arrested. Del Ponte regards as “scandalous” the fact that the former RS political and military leaders, Karadzic and Mladic, have not been apprehended, and underlined that the international community is “absolutely obligated” to find and apprehend them before the said anniversary. “Otherwise, I would say, none of the international partners of the Tribunal would have the face so appear there”, deems Del Ponte. The Chief Prosecutor also stressed that she bases her expectations on the EU’s pressures exerted on Serbia-Montenegro, which aspires towards EU membership. When asked how she is coming into possession of information on basis of which she claims to know the whereabouts of Karadzic and Mladic, Del Ponte said that she has a small tracking team at her disposal so that her office receives the information on the locations and on who is protecting the said war criminals. Del Ponte concluded that the information she receives are forwarded to the relevant international and national institutions.
